Jim Michael grew up in Berkeley Springs, graduated from Berkeley Springs High School in 1953, and earned his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Education from West Virginia University in 1957. Retiring from the USDA Conservation Service after 30 years of providing conservation insights and services in multiple locations in both Virginia and West Virginia, Jim and his wife, Jackie, returned to Berkeley Springs to manage his family farm. Jim continued to provide critical conservation services to Eastern Panhandle residents as the Morgan County Conservation Superintendent, and as a leader in the Eastern Panhandle Conservation District, the Cacapon Resort and State Park Foundation, and the Sleepy Creek Watershed Association. Jim was an early supporter of the Watershed Association and served many years as its Vice President.
He will be sorely missed as both a friend and colleague. We will be eternally grateful for his many years of service to our government, private organizations, and communities.
