SOURCE WATER PROTECTION LAW
TO BE DISCUSSED AT SCWA ANNUAL MEETING
The Sleepy Creek Watershed will host WV Rivers’ Coalition Special Project Manager, David Lillard, at their Annual Meeting to be held on December 9, 2014 from 7 to 8:30 PM at the Morgan County Board of Education Meeting Room, 247 Harrison Avenue, Berkeley Springs, WV. All interested residents are invited to attend.
Mr. Lillard will recap the Source Water Protection Law (SB373) that was passed by the WV Legislature shortly after last January’s major chemical spill in the Elk River near Charleston and discuss on-going actions to implement and change provisions of that law. Two of the more controversial provisions are the preparation and exercising of required source water protection plans by “municipal” water systems and the inventorying and inspecting of above-ground storage tanks within the state (estimated to be over 100,000). He will relate how these provision impact residents and be available to answer questions.
A short business meeting and election of board members will precede the presentation. Light refreshments will be served.
New Sleepy Creek Watershed Association baseball caps ($17) and hooded sweatshirts ($25) will also be available for purchase after the meeting.
